The new job seems to be panning out pretty well. Spotted this in the parking garage this morning. Having also seen a Volvo S60R around the place, and knowing that one of guys on my team drives a manual Audi S5, I think that I’m in good company here.

I just published an article about a manual Audi S5 here on oppositelock. Good company indeed

Oh lawd an SL class. Shake that man’s hand, because he’s a hero for driving that 190SL around like that and leaving it unattended.

My thoughts exactly, especially since we’re right in the middle of a downtown area with a nonsensical road layout and some pretty terrifying drivers. And sure, the garage is fairly secure (it’s technically public parking, but we have an employees-only area), but it must take a special kind of bravery to just leave the roof down like that. The company I’m working for was a tech startup in the ‘70s, and there are still quite a few people who have been there since the beginning (or close to it), and are obviously doing quite well for themselves as a result. I suspect that it might belong to one of those people.
Still, it makes me feel a bit more confident about driving the MG to work. I just have to get it roadworthy again, first...

Great writeup! I thoroughly enjoyed your F1 and Chump Car articles, too.
I currently have a fairly eclectic mix of cars (Volvo 850R wagon, VW Scirocco, and MGA roadster), so I’d like to think that I’m adding to the interesting cars at work, but since they’re all in pretty rough shape, I think that I might be lowering the tone of the neighbourhood a bit. If I ever end up graduating to a nicer car more fitting of a young professional, something fast and German would definitely be high on my list.

Eclectic is rad, too. I can’t remember the last time I saw a Scirocco stateside, either. It’s a good looking VW.
